ABSTRACT

Two significant tourism issues in villages that are currently happening in Indonesia are Community Based Tourism (CBT) and Sustainable Tourism. Sustainable Tourism in tourism villages must include social, cultural, and economic aspects. The purpose of this study is to develop a model that accommodates Community Empowerment and organizational Innovation to achieve sustainable tourism through community-based Tourism (CBT) as a mediator. This study tested seven hypotheses with quantitative methodology using Smart-PLS with respondents from tourism village stakeholders. Four hypotheses have significant relationships; three hypotheses are not substantial. The direct and considerable relationship hypotheses include Organizational Innovation and Community-Based Tourism, Organizational Innovation and Sustainable Tourism, and Community-Based Tourism and Sustainable Tourism. Insignificant direct relationships include Community Empowerment with community-based Tourism and Community Empowerment with Sustainable Tourism. Then, the relationship facilitated through a mediator with significant results is Organizational Innovation, driven by Community-Based Tourism, leading to Sustainable Tourism. Insignificant indirect relationships exist between Community Empowerment, mediated by Community-Based Tourism, and Sustainable Tourism. The originality of this research offers a new perspective that emphasizes the involvement of local organizations as community liaisons in implementing Community-Based Tourism (CBT) to achieve sustainable tourism.
