Bui Van Kieu

ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes the figure of Hưng Đạo Đại Vương Trần Quốc Tuấn as an immortal symbol of patriotism, military wisdom, and the principle of “taking the people as the root” in the history of Vietnam. Through his life, career, and military-political thought, the author asserts that patriotism is not merely an emotion but an actionable ideal closely tied to concrete responsibilities, public service ethics, and national development aspirations. The core patriotic values embodied by Hưng Đạo Đại Vương Trần Quốc Tuấn, placing national interests above all, nurturing the people’s strength, maintaining independence and self-reliance, and fostering creative innovation, remain invaluable lessons for building a strong nation. These values continue to resonate throughout history and contemporary society. The paper emphasizes that, in the context of deep international integration, patriotism centered on national pride and endogenous strength is the most powerful internal driving force for Vietnam to achieve rapid, sustainable, and prosperous development by the mid-21st century.
