ABSTRACT

The rise of digital technologies has fundamentally altered the way journalism operates across the world. News today is produced, distributed, and consumed at unprecedented speed through smartphones, social media platforms, websites, and mobile applications. In India, these changes have significantly influenced journalism, including Hindi-language media, which serves a vast readership across the country. Yet, despite the abundance of instant digital information, Hindi newspapers continue to enjoy considerable public trust. This study explores the evolving landscape of Hindi journalism in the digital age and investigates why readers still perceive Hindi newspapers as more credible than many digital news sources. Factors such as editorial accountability, linguistic familiarity, regional relevance, and long-standing reader relationships emerge as important contributors to this trust. The paper also examines shifts in news consumption behaviour, the growing impact of misinformation on digital platforms, and the adaptive strategies adopted by Hindi newspapers to remain relevant. The research adopts descriptive and analytical approaches. Primary data were collected through surveys and interviews involving respondents from varied age groups, professions, and educational backgrounds. Secondary data were drawn from academic literature, books, reports, newspapers, journals, and media studies resources. Findings indicate that although digital media has expanded access to information, readers continue to associate Hindi newspapers with greater reliability due to fact-verification processes, editorial scrutiny, and accountability. Respondents frequently expressed concerns about sensationalism, misinformation, and incomplete reporting on digital platforms. The study further observes that leading Hindi newspapers have embraced technological transformation by introducing e-papers, mobile applications, websites, and social media engagement, creating a hybrid media ecosystem where print and digital journalism coexist. The paper concludes that the future of Hindi journalism lies not in resisting technological change but in integrating the credibility of traditional journalism with the accessibility and speed of digital media. The sustained trust in Hindi newspapers demonstrates that credibility remains one of journalism’s most valuable assets, even in an age dominated by instant information.
