ABSTRACT
This article presents a systematic review and synthesis of recent evidence (2020–2025) on the factors that drive the competitiveness of SMEs through innovation and digitalization strategies. Based on peer-reviewed literature, dynamic capabilities (digital leadership, culture and analytical capabilities), strategy-aligned digital transformation, open innovation and collaboration, and adoption of Industry 4.0/Quality 4.0 are identified as central levers of competitive performance. Management implications and a research agenda are described. The findings suggest that competitive SMEs combine incremental investments in technologies with absorptive capacity, leadership, and outcome-oriented data governance.
